Only Fools and Horses star Patrick Murray has said his lung cancer has returned, reports RTE.

The 66-year-old actor, best known for his role as Mickey Pierce in the comedy classic, said last year that a tumor in his liver was shrinking and that his cancer was “cured”.

Mr Murray told his Twitter followers on Monday that “despite all the wonderful efforts” of staff at Guy’s, Medway Maritime and King’s College Hospitals in the UK, his “lung cancer has returned”, reports RTE.

The actor, who is also known for the 1970s films Scum and Quadrophenia, said: “I thought I had a painful groin strain a couple of months ago, unfortunately that turned out to be the cancer getting into my pelvis and leg bones. It has also entered my lymphatic system,” reports RTE.

Murray, who starred in Only Fools and Horses from 1983 to 2003, said: “I will also hopefully able to get some shut eye. Another positive is my consultant,” reports RTE.

In a health update last May, Murray said his oncologist told him his “lung cancer was cured and that the tumour in my liver was shrinking”, reports RTE.

John Challis, who played Boycie on Only Fools and Horses, died of cancer in September 2021. He was 79 years old.
