Oops: Norwegian fighter aircraft fires upon own control tower by accident

f16s

An F-16S jet from the Norwegian air force mistakenly fired its guns upon a control tower with three officers inside. All three survived the incident.

Two F-16S jets were taking part in a training exercise on the uninhabited island of Tarva, just off Norway’s west coast, when one of the aircraft fired its gun, a six-barrel M61 Vulcan cannon with a rate of fire of 6,000 rounds per minute, on a control tower. A volley of projectiles hit the tower, but none of the three men inside sustained any injuries.

It’s the second time the same tower is hit by friendly fire. Back in 2009, a similar incident took place, with one F16S jet hitting the tower by mistake.
