The gardai have advised motorists to slow down and not to drink and drive. The warning comes as a checkpoint bonanza is expected over the upcoming August bank holiday weekend.
This weekend in particular is said to be noted for accidents and a number of fatalities on the roads.
The Liberal spoke with a traffic corp member who told us:
“We’re going to be looking out for speeding and drink drivers. More people will be on the roads over the 4 day period and this weekend is normally one of the highest in terms of speeding fines and fatal road traffic crashes. We’re aiming to stop both this year. We have no problem with this information being shared on social media and for people to share it with their friends, we’ve launched our campaign in an effort to get people to think twice.”
“The message is simple, don’t drink and drive and don’t speed.”
