OPINION: Holohan needs to take people’s mental health into consideration as well as their physical – suicide, lack of health care and no money could be far worse than the virus

It would appear that since the Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan retook the reigns from Dr Ronan Glynn, the country as a whole has taken a sudden nosedive.

A cynic would say that the government agreed with Holohan to take some time off and the country could also take some time off, then when he returns, so too does the lockdown.

Holohan appears to be demanding Ireland be placed on a Level 5 lockdown regardless of the consequences, and those consequences could be enormous.

Covid affects people’s physical health, but lockdowns can badly affect people’s mental health.

Their livelihoods stopped, their exercise stopped or curtailed, perhaps stuck in a house with an abusive partner, parent or even child.

Tony Holohan’s enormous wages are guaranteed regardless of any lockdown and when he decides to dictate what he thinks should be done, he needs to think of all aspects of that decision and as far as many people are now concerned with this so-called Lockdown Part 2 – he’s certainly not doing that.

How many people will die from lack of health care? Taking their own life? Burn out? Does Holohan care less about this people? In my opinion, he’s not even thinking about them.

What do you think? Should there be another lockdown or not?
