Opinion: The good people of Oughterard have shown the entire country what’s possible and what you may need to do in your own town

The decent, hardworking, honourable people of Oughterard, Co. Galway have shown the entire country what is possible if they work cohesively and peacefully against a mass influx of undocumented migrants flooding into their village.

No one had any idea just how many migrants were going be thrust into the small village of Oughterard. No one had any idea where these migrants would be coming from, their possible criminal background, their intentions on the sleepy village.

However the good people of Oughterard stood up, were counted and won their battle against forced population replacement. But their battle may be over but their war isn’t. These decent people have already said that they’re willing to stand with any other village or town around the country if they face the same plight.

Thus far there has been no suggestion of direct provision centres being opened in Ballsbridge, Donnybrook, Foxrock and Blackrock or anywhere in or around Dublin 4 or Dublin 6 – what would happen if it’s suggested for these areas? Nothing because it will never be suggested. Far more likely will be the likes of Macroom in Cork, Dunleer in Louth, Aughrim in Wicklow, Ballinakill in Laois or Drumlish in Longford. People around Ireland need to wake up fast and be aware of the possibility that you too could be faced with mass migration of undocumented migrants from anywhere forced into your small, remote, sleepy village or town.

Oughterard showed the government what’s possible when good people band together, but moreover it showed the entire country what they can do if needs be.
