Met Eireann has issued status orange rainfall warning for Wicklow, Galway, Kerry and Waterford. The same level of precaution for strong winds will be placed along the West Coast (Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare and Kerry) starting mid-day tomorrow. Yellow wind warning will be in place for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon, Cork, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford.
With rainfall totals expected to be between 40 and 70 mililitres between tonight and tomorrow, several roads flooded accross the country and the river Shannon at its highest level, residents of Westmeath and nearby areas areat risk of flooding.
Members of the public are encouraged to stay away from high risk coastal areas, and the authorities also indicate that piers and coastal walks should be strictly avoided during the next 48 hours.
ESB issued an statement in which explains that the “level of water flow may have associated flooding to land and property in the vicinity of the Shannon downstream of Parteen Weir including the areas of Springfield, Montpelier, Castleconnell, Mountshannon (Annacotty) and the University of Limerick.”
