The former Paralympian Oscar Pistorious will spend the remainder of his sentence behind bars after a South African court denied his request for an appeal.

Pistorious who was found guilty of themurder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp last year, is reported to have submitted an appeal against his conviction and prison sentence to South Africa’s Constitutional court.

However following a ruling on Tuesday the former Paralympian athlete was informed that his appeal has been subsequently denied.

Pistorious who was found guilty of murdering Ms Steenkamp after he shot her four times through the locked door of his bedroom toilet on February 14th 2013, had appealed to overturn his conviction after he was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 13 years in prison last November.

Although Pistorious has repeatedly denied killing Ms Steenkamp, believing that she was an intruder inside their home, the South Africaian was found guilty of her murder after an appeal from the prosecution.

Pistorious who will have no further grounds for an appeal, was given an extended sentence after the prosecution argued that his original sentence of six years was too lenient.

In a statement the court said: ‘the application for leave to appeal is dismissed’ as it was not a constitutional matter.’
