Out for Christmas: Over 130 Irish prisoners granted temporary release




A total of 137 prisoners will get an opportunity to spend Christmas at home after they were granted temporary release.

According to The Irish Sun newspaper, the temporary release for those coming to an end to their current sentence, comes after the Minister for Justice and Equality Charlie Flanagan approved the move on Friday.

It is believed the vast majority of those granted temporary release are those who are nearing the end of their current sentence, whilst others have been granted a temporary release on a compassionate grounds.

The Irish Prison Service say all those who were granted temporary release will have to comply with strict rules and regulations whilst out on temporary parole.

It is believed the temporary relase can last between one to seven days.
