Out of control: PAC reveals the overall cost of the new National Children’s Hospital could exceed €2bn




The cost of the new National Children’s Hospital is continuing to sprial out of control as a recent report revealed by the Public Accounts Committee has confirmed that the overall building cost could be over €2bn.

The latest news now means that the overall cost of the project has risen to a staggering €1.7bn and continues to rise.

According to the figures the overall construction cost of the the hospital amounted to €963m before VAT which is reported to be another €130m added on top.

The long planned hospital will have further rising costs as another €339m will be added on for design fees, MRI equipment, hospital furniture, planning fees and general levies.

Meanwhile a further €293m, will be spent on technology services, research facilities, and to cover the cost of the integration of all three children’s hospital into one.

There will also another €40m outlay spent on writing off the original earmarked Mater Hospital site.

The massive outlay has already drawn criticism from opposition TD’s and the public as the estimated cost of the project was €983m just four months ago.

It is also expected that the taxpayer will spend a further €100m on costs in 2019.
