Outrage as almost one third of Poland declares itself “LGBTI ideology free zone”

Almost 100 Polish municipalities have declared that they are “free from LGBTI ideology” meaning pro-LGBTI+ groups are now officially banned from carrying out events such as gay pride parades or raising funds in almost a third of the country.

Local government authorities in these areas have also made pledges to refrain from acts that promoting LGBTI+ lifestyles and to avoid providing financial assistance to NGOs working to promote equal rights.

This has provoked outrage amongst pro-LGBTQI+ groups and organisations activists have created an “Atlas of Hate” online which details the areas of Poland where local governments have taken the pledge to ban pro-LGBTI+ ideology.

However, despite this outrage and the fact that the EU parliament passed a resolution last December condemning the concept of LGBT ideology -free zones in December the number of municipalities in Poland signing up to the pledge has steadily grown.
