New figures from RTÉ have revealed that more than 200 people at the broadcaster were receiving salaries in excess of €100,000 per year at the end of 2025.
The data shows that 18 individuals were earning more than €200,000 as of 31 December, with 12 of those in a pay band between €225,000 and €300,000. RTÉ declined to provide any further breakdown of its highest earners, stating that to do so could identify specific individuals — a decision made in response to a freedom of information request, reports Breaking News.
Six people were paid between €200,000 and €225,000, and a further nine received payments of between €175,000 and €200,000.
The figures were not separated into staff members and contractors, but they do include RTÉ’s highest-earning presenters, reports Breaking News.
A total of 13 people were paid between €150,000 and €175,000, while 27 fell into the band between €130,000 and €150,000. The figures also showed 24 people earned between €120,000 and €130,000.
The release of the figures comes amid a deepening controversy at the broadcaster, following the revelation that well-known presenter and producer Derek Mooney had been mistakenly excluded from RTÉ’s annual list of top ten earners, and that Claire Byrne and Ray D’Arcy were paid a combined €97,000 after they had ceased presenting their programmes, reports Breaking News.
RTÉ Director General Kevin Bakhurst is expected to meet Culture Minister Patrick O’Donovan this week to explain the circumstances surrounding the latest controversies to emerge at the national broadcaster, reports Breaking News.
