Around 200 RTÉ staffers joined a protest organized by the National Union of Journalists to express their frustration at revelations about undisclosed payments to Ryan Tubridy, reports RTE.

There were widespread calls for clarity as staff expressed their anger and sadness at what happened, demanded responses from management and also stressed the need for accountability.

Attendees included employees from across the organization, from researchers to technicians to the makeup department. A large cohort of NUJ and SIPTU members attended.

Addressing the crowd, Emma O Kelly, President of the NUJ Dublin Broadcasting Branch, described the situation as unbelievable, reports RTE

She said while they welcome an external review, they added that they already know the organization’s culture and have been on the receiving end “too long”.

“And when I say the receiving end, I don’t mean the end of all the money. Not that receiving end,” she said, reports RTE.
