Over half of Irish motorists say they always obey speed limits

According to a recent AA poll, 42% of drivers say they “most of the time” and 56% of drivers always follow speed restrictions, reports Breaking News.

More than 2,600 people responded to the poll, which revealed certain patterns in Irish road etiquette and driving conduct.

Drivers were asked to list the driving habits they believed to be the most risky.

The most risky habit, according to 97% of respondents, is driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs. This was closely followed by 96% who said using a phone while driving and 95% who said speeding, reports Breaking News.

There were also references of tailgating, running red signals, weaving in and out of traffic, and driving without headlights.

According to the AA, these figures demonstrate not just a strong understanding of the main hazards associated with driving, but also a concerning pattern of unsafe behaviour.

Furthermore, drivers said that aggressive driving and careless indicator use were the most annoying behaviours they saw in other drivers, with nearly 90% of them citing this as their main complaint, reports Breaking News.

Eighty-four percent of respondents said they were frustrated by drivers who still frequently fail to utilise their indicators.

The majority of drivers who left their remarks verbatim stated that their biggest pet peeve was people using the incorrect lane, particularly at roundabouts.

Notably, 82% of respondents acknowledged never using a phone while operating a vehicle, indicating a positive trend towards safer driving habits, reports Breaking News.
