Police in the US state of North Carolina, have arrested a paedophile following a short stand off after he threatened to kill himself when a mother caught him molesting her seven-year-old daughter.
According to WSOC.tv, the man named as Homer Compton, 47, threatened to shoot himself with a rifle after the distraught mother caught him abusing her daughter.
It is understood that the terrified mother was forced to leave the scene and get her daughter to safety before she informed police about Compton.
Following the alert police investigating the incident say they were involved in a 20 minute stand-off with Compton who was a known acquaintance of the girl’s mother.
However following the stand-off Compton who was taken into police custody, told investigating officers that he had been abusing the young girl for a number of months.
Police say Compton has since been charged with six counts of statutory rape, two counts of child sex offenses, and four counts of indecent liberties with a child.
