Varadkar: Bringing ISIS bride Lisa Smith home is the compassionate thing to do

Seemingly joining ISIS, fighting in Syria and being allowed to come home is the compassionate thing to do.

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar Varadkar has said that an Irish woman who is currently being detained in Syria has the right to come home.

According to Radio Nova, Mr Varadkar has said 37-year-old Lisa Smith, who is currently being detained at a Syrian refugee camp over alleged links to ISIS – does have the right to come home.

Varadkar reportedly said that it’s even the compassionate thing to do.

The Taoiseach said that it’s not certain that ISIS sympathizer Lisa Smith has actually committed a crime.

Varadkar added that if Ms Smith were to be allowed to return home, the state would have to ascertain that she isn’t a threat.

It’s now likely that Lisa Smith could end up back living in her native Dundalk with her 2-yr-old son after being allegedly connected to ISIS in Syria.
