48 passengers and crew have been confirmed dead after an aircraft crashed onto the side of a mountain in Pakistan.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Flight PK661, an ATR-42 turboprop model, crashed after a reported engine failure.

The plane disintegrated on impact, killing all on board. A former Pakistani pop star, Junaid Jamshed, is believed to be among the dead.

The aircraft had only been inspected recently, and was found to be airworthy. It had been manufactured in 2007 and had flown almost 20,000 at the time of the crash.
