Animal rights group PETA have left parents angered after their latest demonstration in Sydney, Australia, left children shocked over the weekend.

During a demonstration to promote veganism, the animal rights group were heavily criticised after they used a barbecued prop dog to stop eating meat.

The protest which was held out the Pitt Street Mall last Saturday, left parents outraged after they used the prop dog surrounded by vegetables to highlight the difference of domestic animals to the ones we eat.

During the demonstration which was held ahead of the annual barbecue tradition which is held on Australia Day.

PETA used the prop life-like dog and placed the following message underneath “If you wouldn’t eat a dog, why eat a lamb?”

However parents have voiced their anger at the demonstration saying that a number of children who were on their summer break were left traumatised by the demonstration as many thought it was a real dog that was barbecued.

Although PETA acknowledged concerns, they have since defended the demonstration saying those who are repulsed by the thought of eating dog meat should show compassion to other animals.
