Passengers left stranded, tired and angered as drone flyer allegedly purposely flies close to Gatwick airport

Gatwick airport has the eyes of the aviation world focused firmly on it again this morning as a drone was again spotted in the early hours of this morning flying close to its perimeter.

The airport suspended all its flights yesterday after two drones were spotted flying close to planes

Officials in Gatwick airport are heavily investigating after reports that two drones were flying close to airplanes and forced the temporary shutdown of the airport.

They have apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused but said that it was absolutely necessary to suspend flights until the airways were certified as being clear of anything interference of possible accidental drone strikes.

However, passengers missed flights, are delayed and some even stranded after the schedule got completely manhandled during the business travel time of the year.

A statement said: “Following reports of two drones flying over the Gatwick Airport airfield, we have had to suspend flights while this is investigated.

We advise everyone flying from Gatwick, or collecting someone from the airport, Wednesday 19th December or Thursday 20th December, to check the status of their flight.

“We apologise to any affected passengers for this inconvenience but the safety is our foremost priority.”

Some theories on social media claim that the drone flyer is an “eco warrior” and is purposely flying the drone close to the airport in order to shut down aviation travel.
