Disgraced ex-OCI boss Pat Hickey remains behind bars inside one of Brazil’s most infamous prison facilities.

Mr. Hickey is being held at José Frederico Marques Public jail, which is part of the Gericinó Penitentiary Complex, locally known as Bangu 10. Some of the country’s most dangerous criminals are housed in the facility, though it is understood that they are kept in a separate unit to the general population.

Mr. Hickey has had his head shaved and he’s being treated as a normal inmate, according to local sources.

His lawyers requested for him to be freed, pending further investigations, but a judge denied this request. Mr. Hickey will remain inside until Tuesday at least, as Monday is holiday in Brazil.

He faces charges of facilitating ticket touting, formation of a cartel, and illicit marketing. If convicted, he may receive a sentence of up to seven years in prison.
