Paul Murphy TD has reportedly quit the Socialist Party, and has announced his intentions to launch a new political association next week.
It is understood that Mr. Murphy and his former party colleagues could not agree on a number of issues, which led to his departure.
The south Dublin TD became a prominent figure during the sustained campaign of backlash against Irish Water.
He will reveal further details about the new party on Monday.
