Some media outlets in the US have attacked actor Chris Pratt for wearing a T-shirt emboldened with the US flag and the symbol of a coiled snake and featuring the phrase “Don’t Tread On Me”.

The symbol by itself is known as the Gadsden flag, named in honour of Brigadier General Christopher Gadsden, an officer in the Continental Army during the American War of Independence against Britain.

Bizarrely, the Revolutionary War symbol which is also used by the US men’s soccer team was linked to white supremacism by media outlet Yahoo which has now revised its article on Pratt.

The Gadsden flag is also used by conservative and libertarian groups in the US such as the Tea Party, which has led many liberally biased media outlets to attempt to denigrate it as a hate symbol.

Pratt has been attacked by other liberal actors such as Ellen Page in the past because his church and by progressive and liberal personalities and groups on social media for his patriotism, Christianity and for his love of hunting.
