Sinn Féin TD Peadar Tóibín has said he remains opposed to abortion on demand up until 12 weeks.
Mr Tóibín who was speaking on RTÉ’s Today with Sean O’Rourke programme, said he believes the measure is extreme and we should not be facilitating that in Ireland.
Although Mr Tóibín said he accepts the result of last Friday’s referendum, the Sinn Féin TD said recent exit polls carried out by RTÉ, suggests that 50% of yes voters did not vote for abortion on demand up until 12 weeks, but they instead voted to Repeal the Eighth Amendment and change the law to support specific cases such as life-limiting conditions or fatal fetal abnormalities and cases such as rape and incest.
Mr Tóibín who has yet to decide whether or not he vote against any proposed legislation in the Dáil, also agreed that both sides now must be respectful of the result as the vote represents the will of the Irish people.
