“People are being advised not to contact them (emergency services) unless absolutely necessary” – BBC prepares secret scripts in case of black outs

The BBC is preparing secret scripts designed to calm and reassure the public in the event that the ongoing energy crisis results in blackouts during the winter.

The Guardian newspaper, reported the wording of one such script which read:

“The government has said it’s hoped power will be restored in the next 36 to 48 hours. Different parts of Britain will start to receive intermittent supplies before then.”

Another such script, worded as a bulletin reads:

“The emergency services are under extreme pressure. People are being advised not to contact them unless absolutely necessary.”

As a result of sanctions on Russia and the recent sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipeline it is feared that as winter sets in there may be blackouts across Europe.

The UK energy regulator had already warned earlier this month that there is a “significant risk” of gas shortages that would see gas-powered power plants go offline this winter.

In Ireland speaking in August a senior research officer from the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI).
told RTE’s Morning Ireland today that the energy supply is the tightest it has been for “a good while”.

Measures to reduce energy consumption have since been introduced in government buildings but there are fears this will not be enough.

In a time when energy resources are so scarce, the more astute members of the public are questioning the wisdom of the country welcoming tens of thousands of refugees exacerbate the energy demand in the country.
