Over the past month, people have seen a dramatic increase in being phoned by scam phone callers.
People say that they’re receiving phishing phone calls from numbers very similar to their own actual phone number.
So for example, if you’re number is 087-5521345, the number ringing you would be something like 087-5521346.
People are advised to not answer these callers and that if they do by mistake answer them, to hang up immediately, certainly not give them any information and get them off the phone.
Social media users are asked to ensure that their elderly family and friends are familiar with these scams and to not phone them back if they see a missed call.
