People are urged to plan journeys home amid public transport fears on Christmas Eve

It is recommended that those who are socialising throughout the holiday season make sure they arrange their travel so they can get home securely, reports RTE.

It comes after certain transport associations issued a warning that issues might arise in the days ahead due to a shortage of suitable public transit.

This weekend is one of the busiest times of the year for socialising in city and town centres, therefore there will likely be a significant rise in demand for taxis and public transportation, reports RTE.

The lack of cabs, according to one group of worried companies, may pose major safety risks.

There should be more taxis, according to the Taxis for Ireland Coalition, which advocates for many wineries, eateries, and travel agencies.

It cautioned that consumers could have to choose riskier modes of transportation or endure long wait periods in potentially dangerous circumstances, reports RTE.

Additionally, there is a warning that major issues may arise due to the increased demand for public transit in the days ahead.

A decrease in some DART and bus services was deemed “extremely frustrating” by the Dublin Commuter Coalition.

There will be limited exceptions to the track repair work between Pearse Station and Grand Canal Dock for the New Year, according to Iarnród Éireann, however the Connolly to Grand Canal Dock route will be closed from December 26 to January 5, reports RTE.
