People over 65 have been advised not to drink tea with meals and rather only the popular hot beverage between eating as it can interfere with the body’s absorption of iron and zinc the Food Safety Authority has said.

Speaking on RTÉ’s News at One Dr Mary Flynn, a chief specialist in Public Health Nutrition with the FSA, said these nutrients are key for keeping us physically and cognitively at our best.

During the interview on RTÉ News Dr Flynn also urged people to drink more liquids, stating that women should be drinking at least 1.6 litres of water per day while men should be drinking two litres of H2O.
