
A father of two who died when his light aircraft crashed during an emergency landing in Waterford has been identified, reports Breaking News.
Bircan Dokuzlar (48), originally from Turkey, was killed when he attempted to land the aircraft in a field near Waterford Airport last Thursday at around 12:50pm, reports Breaking News.
The plane had departed from Sligo and was en route to Beziers in France.
Emergency services, including Coast Guard Rescue 117, responded to the scene, reports Breaking News.
Air accident investigators are continuing to examine the cause of the crash. It is understood that Mr Dokuzlar turned the aircraft around off Ireland’s south coast and attempted an emergency landing back near Waterford Airport,
The aircraft, privately-owned Vulcanair P68C, had been stored in Sligo for several months and did not carry a cockpit voice recorder due to its size, reports Breaking News.
A GoFundMe page was established to support his family financially and also paid tribute to Mr Dokuzlar “for his diligence, honesty and dedication,
“(He was) an honorable man who tirelessly worked for his family despite all hardships,” reports Breaking News.
The fundraising campaign, set up by Kaan Demiroz, aims to help the family cope with the aftermath of the tragedy.
He said: “This sudden and devastating loss has left his family not only in deep grief but also facing the heavy burden of funeral, burial, international transportation, and the many needs the family now faces without him,” reports Breaking News.
“This period is extremely challenging for the family, both financially and emotionally. All support collected will help lighten the Dokuzlar family’s burden during this difficult time and allow them to take a small breath of relief,” reports Breaking News.
To date, the campaign has raised over €33,000,
Investigators continue to probe the crash, and initial findings suggest that weather conditions were not a contributing factor, reports Breaking News. .
