A planned Direct Provision Centre in Rooskey, Co Leitrim, will not go ahead the Department of Justice has confirmed.

In an announcement made this afternoon, the Department of Justice said the disused hotel earmarked for the centre is now not a viable option.

It is believed that a legal issue has a risen over the lease of the hotel, which in turn has halted the proposed provision centre.

In a statement The Department of Justice said that they were made aware of the issue which is believed to involve hotel owners and the operators renting it, last December.

They also say that although the proposed provision at Rooskey will not go ahead, the Government remains committed to securing suitable accommodation for asylum seekers.
