As thousands and thousands of Irish people desperately seek shelter for the elements this winter, people who never stepped foot in the country prior to 2022 look like they’ll be given brand new houses before them.
A so-called refugee village camp in Laytown, County Meath for Ukrainians has been met with fierce opposition from locals.
According to the Drogheda Leader, planning permission for 569 modular-style homes has been submitted for the area seeking to build the homes immediately.
It’s understood that the developers are seeking a temporary planning permission for 5 years to build emergency accommodation campsite on close to 16 hectares of land.
The Drogheda Leader reports that the state agency in charge of housing Ukrainians is not behind the proposal.
Locals say that the area is not equipped for such a massive influx of refugees and that schools, shops and roads will not be able to cope if the development goes ahead.
