Ireland is seeing a dramatic increasing in alleged refugees claiming asylum in the country aside from the massive influx of Ukrainians.
Numbers of asylum seekers from African, the Middle East and South Asia have jumped in recent months with many attempting to take advantage of chaos brought about by the open boarder policy for Ukrainians.
The massive backlog in processing asylum claims has resulted in a system that rarely deports bogus asylum seekers breaking down entirely.
Most disturbingly, Minister Helen McEntee’s Justice Department has previously admitted they do not keep record of how many rejected asylum seekers are actually deported, even those convicted of serious violent or sexual crimes.
The never-ending waves of Ukrainians has had a knock-on effect on the housing of migrants from other areas.
The majority of alleged asylum seekers from African, the Middle East and South Asia are young men and due to obvious safety concerns, they must be kept well away from Ukrainian refugees who are mostly women and children.
The government’s answer has been to dump these men in working class areas such as Blanchardstown where the National Indoor Sports Arena is being used as a makeshift shelter leading to numerous incidents of anti-social behaviour in neighbouring Corduff.
