Poland has been praised after announcing that they’ve taken in at least 604,000 refugees from Ukraine over the past week.

It’s understood that the Eastern European country has one city alone taking in at least 10,000 refugees a day.

On the Poland/Ukrainian border, refugees are welcomed with hot food and drink, some toys for children, clothes and toiletries.

Ireland is due to take in at least 20,000 refugees from the Ukraine over the coming weeks and months.

Meanwhile, Priti Patel has claimed the UK will take in 100,000 Ukrainian refugees fleeing the Russian invasion.

But the Home Secretary has ruled out a visa waiver for Ukrainians fleeing the conflict, fearing troops and extremists in Moscow are trying to come to the UK.

She said: ‘Through this extension alone I can confirm that an additional 100,000 Ukrainians will be able to seek sanctuary in the UK, with access to work and public services.

‘We are enabling Ukrainian nationals already in the UK, giving them the ability to switch free of charge into a points-based immigration route or through the family visa route.

It’s not yet known how many refugees Ireland will take in.
