Authorities in the US have confirmed that a police officer has been charged with third degree murder and manslaughter in relation to the death of George Floyd.
It is understood that officer Derek Chauvin, who was seen kneeling on Mr Floyd’s neck for 5 minutes was charged in connection with the incident which occurred in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The news of the charges brought against Chauvin was confirmed by Prosecutor Mike Freeman.
The charges come after Chauvin was taken in to custody earlier on Friday.
Freeman added that an investigation into three other police officers involved in the incident is currently ongoing, however he said that he expects charges to be brought against all three officers in the coming days.
