There will be a special gathering of political leaders and military veterans in Dublin today to commemorate the Battle of the Somme.
The special event at the Irish National War Memorial Gardens, Islandbridge, will commemorate the lives of 3,500 Irish soldiers who bravely lost their lives in the battle during World War I.
Among those expected to attend are President Michael D Higgins, Taoiseach Enda Kenny, Northern Ireland Secretary Theresa Villiers and Stormont Speaker Robin Newton.
There will also be representatives from other countries attending the event.
