Political Apathy: 66% of registered voters decided not to bother voting in Dublin Bay South by-election which Ivana Bacik won

In last week’s by-election, just 34% of registered voters went to the polling stations in the Dublin Bay South by-election. The Sun said this voter turnout exceeded expectations, reports the Mirror.

In the 2020 General election there was a 58% turnout so 34% is low in comparison.

The 34% Dublin Bay South voter participation rate means that 66% of registered voters in the constituency didn’t bother to vote. There are also those who are eligible to vote but are not registered on the voter register, so voter apathy could be higher than 66%.
