Polling day arrives: Voters decide on their next President and on whether or not to remove blasphemy from the constitution




The long wait is almost over for the six presidential candidate’s as polling day has arrived.

In a day were the Irish public will be asked to vote for a new president, voters will also have the chance to remove the offence of blasphemy from the Irish Constitution.

Polling will officially get underway at 7am and will last until 10pm this evening.

Those attending polling centres across the country are being reminded to bring a form of identification with them before they vote as their may not count if they fail to do so.

Those wishing to vote are also being reminded to follow the correct steps whilst posting their ballot as their vote may become void if they submit an incorrectly completed ballot paper.

It is expected that counting for both polls will begin on Saturday morning and a result for both polls could be given as early as Saturday evening or Sunday morning at the latest.
