Pope Francis this week met with clerical abuse victims from all over the world, including Ireland. The pontiff said how sad, disappointed and outraged he was at what he considers to be the most evil of all crimes. He apologised wholeheartedly on behalf of the church and said that he intended to out all cases that he’s made aware of.

He met all the victims individually and asked for their grace and forgiveness. Clerical abuse has cast a dark cloud over the Catholic Church, but its leader, Pope Francis has turned the tide and started to make progress in terms of credibility, accountability and ownership of their grave sins.

He said: “Before God and his people I express my sorrow for the sins and grave crimes of clerical sexual abuse committed against you. And I humbly ask forgiveness”.

The victims were very decent to meet the Pontiff, but equally it is a major step for Pope Francis to meet the victims. The victims are said to be quite happy with the meeting.
