Pope Francis has called for stronger action to tackle climate change. Speaking on the papal plane, the pontiff told reporters that he believed climate change was man-made and that more courage was needed to deal with it. “We have in a sense taken over nature,” the Pope said.
The Pope said that he thanked God there were now so many people who were speaking up about global warming and urged the world’s leaders to reach an agreement on tackling carbon emissions. Politicians will meet in Paris at the beginning of December to try and negotiate a climate change deal.
Pope Francis’ words come in the same week as climate change deniers have taken charge of environmental protection in the United States. Senior Republican Senator James Inhofe has said he does not believe God would allow mankind to affect the climate in the way scientists claim. The Pope apparently disagrees.
