Potential for a catastrophic confrontation increases as tensions mount between Russia and UK

The world is edging towards a potentially catastrophic confrontation after the UK has moved forward with punitive actions against Russia following the poisoning of a former double agent and his daughter with a nerve agent in Salisbury.

Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia remain in a critical condition and the UK has assured the world that the weapon used originated in Russia but has not provided evidence to independent arbitrators.

The U.S, France and Germany have since backed the UK assertions and following the expulsion of 23 Russian diplomats the UK government also plans to freeze Russian State assets in the UK.

Moscow has dismissed the allegations stating it had nothing to gain and everything to lose by trying to kill Skripal, particularly with a WMD so easily tracible to Russia.

The U.S is also moving forward with new sanctions on Russia, tensions between the two countries are already on a knife edge over tensions in Syria.

Moscow has promised swift retaliation and President Putin has only recently stated he will never allow Russia to be made a scape-goat and swore he use Russia’s massive nuclear arsenal if the country were threatened.
