
Elon Musk and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy will head the newly established Department of Government Efficiency, according to US President-elect Donald Trump, reports RTE.
The US President-elect said in a statement that Mr. Musk and Mr. Ramaswamy “will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies.”
On the 250th anniversary of the writing of the Declaration of Independence, Mr. Trump stated that their work would be finished by July 4, 2026, and that a more compact and effective government would be a “gift” to the nation, reports RTE.
The nominations honour two of Mr. Trump’s most ardent business sector backers.
While Ramaswamy, the founder of a pharmaceutical firm, competed against Trump for the Republican presidential nomination and then put his support behind the former president, Mr. Musk is the leader of the electric vehicle company Tesla, the social networking platform X, and the rocket company SpaceX, reports RTE.
Mr. Musk made public appearances alongside Mr. Trump and contributed millions of dollars to his presidential campaign.
In order to increase government efficiency, Mr. Trump had promised to grant Mr. Musk, the richest person in the world, a position in his administration.
“This will send shockwaves through the system, and anyone involved in government waste, which is a lot of people!” the X CEO said, according to Mr Trump’s statement, reports RTE.
