There’s been a very public row between the President of the United States and the country’s top covid-19 expert over just how and when the current restriction measures will be lifted, if ever.
The top American coronavirus expert warned that Covid-19 was the new standard and that the killer virus may never go away. The White House immunologist was asked how life could get back to normal without a vaccine.
Dr Anthony Fauci said: ‘If back to normal means acting like there never was a coronavirus problem, I don’t think that’s going to happen until we do have a situation where you can completely protect the population. ‘But when we say getting back to normal we mean something very different from what we’re going through right now, because right now we are in a very intense mitigation. When we go back to normal we will go back very gradually to the point where we can function as a society. But you’re absolutely right, if you want to get to pre-coronavirus, that might not ever happen in the sense that, the fact that the threat is there.’
And Dr Fauci, who has reportedly clashed with President Trump over the latter’s repeated vows to end lockdowns across the US as soon as possible
