President Donald Trump, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, announced a significant development on Greenland. Following a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump declared that they had formed the “framework of a future deal” regarding Greenland and the broader Arctic region.
This outline, he said, would benefit the U.S. and all NATO nations, including enhanced security measures like his proposed “Golden Dome” missile defense system.
In a Truth Social post and remarks to reporters, Trump confirmed he would not impose previously threatened tariffs (set for February 1) on several European countries, citing this understanding. He emphasized ongoing negotiations led by Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. Earlier in his speech, Trump ruled out using military force to acquire the Danish territory, calling for “immediate negotiations” while stressing U.S. strategic needs amid concerns over Russia and China.
The announcement marked a de-escalation after weeks of tension, though details remain preliminary and subject to further talks.
