In response to the US president’s remarks on the Ukrainian leader’s support rating, Volodymyr Zelensky has declared that Donald Trump is living in a Russian “disinformation space,” reports Breaking News.
At his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, Mr. Trump stated on Tuesday that Mr. Zelensky’s rating is 4%.
At a press conference in Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, on Wednesday, the president said, “We have seen this disinformation.” We are aware that it originates in Russia, reports Breaking News.
Mr. Trump “lives in this disinformation space,” he continued.
In the meantime, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Donald Trump had informed him that both Russia and Ukraine will be included in the negotiating process.
In his initial reaction to a slew of startling statements the US president made the day before, including implying that Kyiv was to blame for the war, which begins its fourth year next week, Mr. Zelensky stated that he “would like Trump’s team to be more truthful,” reports Breaking News.
In line with the Ukrainian Constitution, the US president also recommended that Ukraine hold elections, which have been delayed because of the conflict and the ensuing martial law.
The violence in Ukraine has made public opinion surveys and approval ratings unreliable.
The remarks were delivered just before Mr. Zelensky was scheduled to meet with Keith Kellogg, the US special envoy for Russia and Ukraine, who arrived in Kyiv on Wednesday, reports Breaking News.
As the US pivots its strategy away from years of attempts to isolate Mr. Putin, Mr. Kellogg will meet with Mr. Zelensky and military leaders.
A day after top U.S. and Russian officials conducted discussions partly to prepare for such a meeting, Mr. Putin declared his desire to meet with Mr. Trump.
“I would like to have a meeting, but it needs to be prepared so that it brings results,” Mr Putin said on Wednesday in televised remarks, reports Breaking News.
He went on to say that while he would be “pleased” to meet with Mr. Trump, he has admitted that a Ukrainian solution may take longer than he had anticipated.
“President Trump told me during our phone call that the United States are proceeding from the assumption that the negotiations process will involve Russia and Ukraine,” Mr Putin said. “No one is going to exclude Ukraine out of it,” reports Breaking News.
