President Trump may have expected a rapturous reception upon his arrival at the Emerald Isle via Shannon Airport, but the expectation quickly turned to disappointment as only person clapped when the man emerged from Air Force One, this time being allowed to hold hands with his wife Melania.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar awaited meekly at the foot of the stairwell leading down from the airplane, and was soon greeted in a rather over-familiar way by President Trump.
The start of the US leader’s visit to Ireland did not get any better, as hundreds of protesters gathered outside the airport perimeter to voice their disagreement with the Trump’s policies on pretty much everything.
