Last year, Waterford was the scene of an alleged Pride flag burning. The flag burning incident was reported nationally and even internationally. What wasn’t ever reported was the name of the person who allegedly burned the Pride flag. We know a man appeared in a Waterford court but no media outlet reported the outcome of the court case or the name of the alleged culprit.
Since the alleged flag burning, Waterford has gone into hyper mode to promote Pride. County councillors voted unanimously to have Waterford declared a safe
zone for the gay community. Pride of the Deise has received €10,000’s in donations from Irish taxpayers and now Dungarvan is about to host it’s first Pride festival.
An adult entertainer who goes under the drag queen name of FiFi Fondue will be opening the Pride festival.
Face painting, balloons and a wobbly circus forms part of the Pride festival. The festival poster features a group of “cartoon” children celebrating Pride.
