A young woman has lodged an official complaint with the PSNI after she alleges that a member of Sinn Fein assaulted her at 1916 Commemoration in Carrickmore, Co Tyrone because she was giving out pro-life leaflets, the Belfast Telegraph has reported.

Catherine Sewell, a 33-year-old mother of three was distributing leaflets which stated, ‘Never ever give your vote to an Irish politician who advocates the killing of Irish children in the womb’ when she claims she was approached by a Sinn Fein member who shouted at her to stop giving out the leaflets and then pushed her.

Sinn Fein supported the Repeal of the 8th amendment in the Republic which cleared path for abortion on demand and now seeks to liberalise Northern Ireland’s strict abortion laws but pro-life activists from both nationalist and unionist background have vowed to oppose abortion legalisation in province, the Belfast Newsletter reported.
