Project Ireland 2040: Rural Ireland fobbed off again as Dublin gets preference for new infrastructure

It appears that Ireland’s 20 year plan doesn’t care less about rural Ireland. Counties outside the pale are being fobbed off with infrastructure and development that had already been promised and needed for a growing population.

It’s predicted that we’ll have an extra 1 million people living in Ireland by 2040.

That includes a full 75% population growth outside county Dublin.

There’ll be an estimaed 500,000 new homes built over the next 20 years with 2,600 new hospital beds and 15,000 new schools over the coming 20 years.

There’ll be major investment in transport but mostly aimed towards the capital and surrounding counties.

The dart service will now go from Kildare to Drogheda but nothing major for rural towns and counties is planned. What’s your thoughts on the 20 year plan.
