Property Tax change on the horizon as the Government reveal they are looking at alternatives

There could be new changes to the property tax system over the coming months ahead the Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy has revealed.

In announcement over the weekend Mr Murphy confirmed that he and the Government are currently looking at alternatives that will see the system changed.

It is believed the reforms are being discussed after a number of opposition TD’s criticised the tax in the past with many stating that it was unfair and in ‘crying need’ of reform.

Under the proposals it is thought the government will instead look to issue a site tax rather than the current system which calculates the tax amount based on a property’s market value.

The news of the proposed reforms comes after newly published figures showed that the unpopular tax collected €477m in 2017.
