The water charges might be suspended, but local councils’ hunger finds other ways to suck households dry.
Up to 600,000 households (about one in three) are facing a massive property tax hike next year, with owners of relatively modest houses valued at €150,000 likely to pay up to €50 more.
Increases to the tax have been approved by almost a third of 31 local councils currently in operation.
