Plans to build a €850m data center in Athenry, Co. Galway, have been scrapped by Apple after a series of delays caused by planning permission issues and local objections.
The protracted process, which began in 2015, has now ended with a negative outcome for both Galway and Ireland as a whole. The project would have created at least 400 new construction jobs and 50 permanent jobs, bringing a huge boost to the local economy.
Apple will now proceed to build a second data centre in Denmark instead.
