Protest underway outside University Hospital Waterford over lack of 24h cardiac care

There is a popular protest underway outside University Hospital Waterford, over the lack of 24h cardiac services.

A 38-year-old local man died last week after suffering a heart attack out in a county village. He was able to drive himself to Waterford Hospital, but had to be sent on by ambulance to Cork, almost 2h away, as the cardiac care facility was not open during the weekend. He died while en route.

Protesters are calling for 24/7 cardiac care to be implemented at the facility, and thus avoid further needless deaths.
